Product Information

These unusual all-door box cars were introduced in 19567 by Thrall Car Manufacturing. Dubbed the thrall-door car, they were designed for efficient loading and unloading of dimensional lumber, milled wood mouldings, plywood, particle board, hard board and other forest products. They were constructed much like a bulkhead flat car to be able to safely carry a 70-ton load of lumber, but their doors and roof protected the cargo from the weather in transit. The doors could be opened in p[airs, allowing access to the entire 50′, 6″ car interior, making them very popular with lumber companies and building products manufacturers. Although a few railroads rostered these cars, most were owned by the North American Car Corporation of America. These were leased out to individual forest products companies and most wore the customer’s corporate colors and logo but carried different reporting marks. Though many have been repainted, most of these cars are still in use today. Feature body-mounted PROTO 2000 magnetic knuckle couplers, PROTO 2000 trucks with needle-point axles, blackened metal wheels, micro-molded detail, prototypical paint schemes and sharp laser-quality printing.
