Product Information
This 40 standard box car is NYC Century Green with white lettering and a brown door and runs on black Bettendorf trucks. Now under Penn Central ownership and built new in 1947-1948 at NYCs DSI (Despatch Shops Inc.), this car was converted to Lot 913B at Beech Grove in 1962. Penn Centrals freight painting practices varied considerably, cars ordered by the NYC before the merger (but delivered afterwards) did arrive with New York Central lot numbers. The brown door on the Century Green car is an example of Penn Centrals financial necessity to keep the freight equipment rolling, making do with what was at hand.
